Educating and Protecting Businesses from Phishing Attacks

Partnership Aims to Train Employees to Identify Emails Scams to Combat Social Engineering

IRIS Solutions, provider of IT solutions for businesses, is pleased to announce its partnership with KnowBe4, the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform. The partnership will empower IRIS Solutions clients to distinguish between real email and phishing attempts from hackers who try to gain access to networks and financials.

In Q1 2018, 262,000 unique phishing emails were reported by the Anti-Phishing Working Group, a 46% increase from Q4 2017. This exponential increase, coupled with an email filter failure rate of 10.5-15%, shows the importance of awareness and educational programs like KnowBe4. KnowBe4 helps clients identify and understand the different attack vectors social engineers. The top ten most popular at this time are:

1. Pretexting;

2. Phishing;

3. Water-Holing;

4. Quid Pro Quo;

5. Honeytrap;

6. Diversion Theft;

7. Spear Phishing;

8. Baiting;

9. Tailgating; and

10. Rogue.

According to the FBI, “Business Email Compromise” scams, attacks designed to trick employees into sending money to a fake vendor, netted at least $676 million in 2017. Just one of these attacks could cost a mid-size business upwards of $1.6 million.  “With the core of our business being small and mid-size medical and dental practices, it’s imperative that IRIS Solutions partner with industry leading companies to protect patient data. We’ve seen patient data priced three to four times higher than other personal information sold on the dark web. KnowBe4’s comprehensive security awareness training is a decisive step forward in educating customers on existential threats and safeguards,” says Reggie Stevens, CEO of IRIS Solutions.
